Ectopic pregnancy is a complication of early pregnancy, in which the fertilized egg (embryo) implants and grows outside the main cavity of the womb.  It is considered a medical emergency which can lead to life-threatening blood loss.

Women who experience unexplained pain and/or bleeding in early pregnancy, should seek medical attention immediately to exclude possible ectopic pregnancy.
